Thurma "Corkey" Lee Moore Smitha Obituary (1944

Mrs. Thurma "Corkey" Lee Moore Smitha , age 81, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on November 6, 1944 in Madison, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Thurman and Georgi Goins Moore. She attended school and was raised in the Madison community. She married Gary Allen Smitha on April 6, 1962 at the Wirt Baptist Church near Madison. This happy union of 55 years was blessed with a son, Gary Jr. and a daughter, Deborah. She worked in the sample department at Regal Rugs in North Vernon, Indiana for twenty-four years, retiring from there. She and Gary resided in North Vernon for 17 years and later in Memphis, Tennessee for four years. She also worked at the Lowes Distribution Center in North Vernon for seven years. She last worked for Holiday Inn in Madison as breakfast bar host. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and country music. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Thurma died on Friday, June 19, 2026, at her home in Madison, Indiana. Please Click Here to View the Video Tribute A LOVING FAMILY Thurma will be missed by her loving daughter, Deborah Williams and her husband Christopher of North Vernon, Indiana; her loving son, Gary Smitha, Jr. and his wife Carrie of Madison, Indiana; her sister, Eunice Moore of Enid, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Bridgette, Jerry, Cassi, Jay, Joey, Kimberly, Kristina, and Dustin; her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jace, Jasper, Zoey, Chloe, Sierra, Jaylin, Jacob, Logan, Mason, Ayden, Addelin, Elizabeth, Maggie, Brianna, Brayden, Brooke, Brynley, Mason; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Thurman Moore, her mother, Georgi Goins Moore, her grandmother who raised her, Anna Ball Goins, her brother, Eugene Moore, her beloved husband of 55 years, Gary Allen Smitha, died May 5, 2017. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Dupont Cemetery in Dupont, Indiana.
