Shirley M. Elston

Shirley M. Elston, age 73, of Canaan, Indiana, entered this life on June 15, 1937 in Jefferson County, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late, Clarence & Opal L. Brooks Elston. She resided all of her life in Jefferson County and was a 1955, graduate of Central High School. She was employed for 32 years as a secretary in the food service department of the Madison State Hospital. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church near Moorefield for many years. Shirley was a member of the Bennington Rebekah Lodge No. 851. After moving to Canaan, Shirley became a member of the Indian-Kentuck Baptist Church near Canaan. Shirley enjoyed being a docent at the Madison State Hospital Museum. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, crocheting, working puzzles and an avid George Strait fan and a member of his fan club. She enjoyed being a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She had a great Santa Claus Collection and found great enjoyment in caring for her yard. Shirley died Monday, February 14, 2011 at 3:27 a.m. at the Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY
Shirley will be missed by her loving sons: Jeffrey Lynn Lockridge & his wife, Katie of Canaan, Indiana and Gregory Lee Lockridge & his wife, Angie of Shelbyville, Indiana; her loving daughter: Betty Lou Cordle of Madison, Indiana; her brothers: Dillion Elston & his wife, Dawn of Anderson, Indiana, Keith Elston & his wife, Erana of Charlestown, Indiana; her sister in law: Judy Elston of Madison, Indiana; her brother in law: Richard Layne of London, Ohio; her grandchildren: Jarrett Cordle, Brandon, Logan & Miranda Lockridge; her aunt: Lola Wood of Florida; her uncle: Raymond Elston of Shelby, North Carolina; her step great grandchildren: Zackary, Gracie & Calib. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence F. & Opal L. Brooks Elston; her sisters, Linda Parker died, May 28, 1990; Donna Layne died in 2010; her brother, Earl D. Elston died Sept. 24, 1997.

FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Ed Roberts at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Cemetery in Pleasant, Indiana.

VISITATION
Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
