Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of Mr. Russell G. "Russ" James, Sr. Mr. Russell G. "Russ" James, Sr., age 87, of Deputy, Indiana entered this life on May 22, 1932 in Deputy, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Floyd A. and Lynna Eador James. He was raised in his early life in Austin and the family moved to Madison when he was twelve. He graduated in 1950 from Madison High School and then attended Indiana Business College in Indianapolis, Indiana. Russ was inducted into the United States Army in 1950 serving in the National Guard in the 38th Battery Unit C as the Administrator for three years. In 1954 he entered active duty during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. On December 15, 1951 he was united in marriage to Helen Marie Monroe at the First Baptist Church Parsonage by Rev. Gronseth. This happy union of 67 years was blessed with sons, Russ, Jr., Michael, and a daughter, Christine. In 1956 Russ began a career in the automobile industry at Demaree Motors in downtown Madison, he would later work in car sales for Bennett Motors, Brogan Chevrolet, Cas Casteel Chevrolet, and Craig Toyota. He also had owned and operated James Auto Sales and James Motors which had to be rebuilt in 1974 after being destroyed by the tornado. Russ retired in May 1997 after 41 years of service in car sales. He was proud to have attended the Dale Carnegie School and to have been offered a job with them. Russ had served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader at the First Baptist Church in downtown Madison; had held membership in Kiwanis Club of Madison, Lions Club of Madison and Gideon's International. He was a faithful member of the Hanover Baptist Church and had served as a deacon and chairman of the trustees. Russ was involved in the Builder's For Christ Missions Organization for several years. Russ was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many bass and fishing tournaments. He liked playing cards, whistling, singing, socializing, and telling a good joke. Russ was a very kind soul and would help anyone in need; he will be remembered for his smile and many kindnesses he expressed to everyone he met. Russ died on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at 8:30 a.m at his home in Deputy, Indiana with his loving wife at his side. James, Jr. and his wife Cheryl Ann of Sachse, Texas; his loving daughter, Christine Box and her husband, Pat of Hanover, Indiana; his daughter in law, Diana James of Madison, Indiana; his grandchildren, Jennifer Cooley (Andrew), Angela Stout (Jeremy), April James, Patrick Box (Samantha), Amy Smith, Sarah Williams, Quentin Tartock, and Andrew James; his great grandchildren, Grayson, Blake, Lylah, Willow, Taylor, McKenna, Brendon, and Shelby; his great great granddaughter, Novalyn; his sister, Lynna Roberts and her husband, Rev. William Roberts of Dumfries, Virginia; his sisters in law, Imogene James of North Vernon, Indiana, Elizabeth James of Springfield, Tennessee, Charlotte Sherman of Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd A. James, died January 5, 1996, his mother, Lynna Eador James, died December 20, 1986, his beloved son, Michael L. James, died September 3, 1988, his brothers, Robert Eugene James, died February 19, 2011 and Dr. Carroll F. James, died May 7, 2012, his brother in law and sister in law, Clarence Monroe, died February 21, 2012, and Margaret Monroe, died August 20, 2013, his sister in law, Betty June Monroe, died December 11, 1944, his nephew, L. Alan James, died June 5, 2014. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor J.D. Traylor at the Hanover Baptist Church, 151 West Main Street in Hanover, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery, 600 West Fifth Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may visit Monday from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Hanover Baptist Church, 151 West Main Street in Hanover, Indiana.MILITARY HONORSA final salute will be conducted on Tuesday at the Hanover Baptist Church with full military honors to follow at the Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.MEMORIAL EXPRESSIONS Memorial contributions may be made to Hanover Baptist Church or the Gideons.
