Bob Suggett

Mr. Robert R. "Bob" Suggett, Jr., age 90, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on October 11, 2026. Born on September 26, 1936, in Fulton, Missouri, Robert was the son of the late Robert Ray Suggett, Sr. and Nora Ann Wilkinson Suggett. He was a proud graduate of Fulton High School class of 1954 and attended the University of Missouri for two years before returning to the family farm to help his family with livestock and crops. Bob's life was characterized by service, both to his country as a member of the United States Army Reserves and to his community as a businessman and community leader.

After working for Harvest and Walker Brick Plant for five years in Fulton, he moved to Madison in 1962. He was united in marriage on April 21, 1962 to Virginia "Missy" Talkington and this union was blessed with 50 years of marriage until her passing in 2012. After moving to Madison he became president of Barber Grocery Company, a local institution founded in 1938. After the grocery company was destroyed by a tornado in 1974, Bob founded Suggett Schmidt Properties, a successful business that still stands today. He has also owned Western Auto Store on Main Street for several years before it sold to True Value. This drive and dedication also extended to his personal life. A man of many interests, Bob enjoyed travel, golf, fishing, boating, bird hunting with friends, and playing bridge and poker. As a devoted fan, he enjoyed the Indianapolis Colts and proudly supported the University of Missouri and U of L.

Bob was a dedicated member of his community, contributing his time and energy to various local clubs and organizations. He was a fifty-year member of the Madison Rotary Club, a member of the Madison Elks Lodge #524, and a member of First Christian Church. Bob had also served on the board of the Madison Bank and Trust, was the President of the board for the Rising Sun State Bank and served on the township advisory board for many years.

Bob will be missed by his loving daughter Susan Elynn Schmidt (Bob) of Madison, Indiana; his loving son Robert Eugene "Rob” Suggett of Madison, Indiana; his grandchildren Jacob Ray Schmidt (Jessica), Cody Tyler Schmidt (Casey), Sadie Katherine Schmidt Williams (Kenton), Grant Christian Suggett and Trey Evan Suggett; his great-grandchildren Madelyn Rae Schmidt, Anna Katherine Williams, Griffin Roger Williams and Ruth Anne Schmidt; his sister Fredrica Lenore Fike of Missouri; his several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Ray Suggett, Sr. and Nora Ann Wilkinson Suggett; his wife of fifty years Virginia "Missy" Talkington Suggett; his sister Nancy Lou Rice; his brothers-in-law Fred Rice and Lester Fike.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, located at 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Indiana, 47250. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 1:00 p.m. by Pastor Stephanie Rolfe. Interment will then follow in the Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison, Indiana.
