Rachel A. Collins Schmidt

Mrs. Rachel Ann Collins Schmidt, age 71, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on April 11, 1939 in Madison, Indiana on North Walnut Street. She was the daughter of the late Pete Collins & Oveda Handlon Marsh. She resided all of her life in Madison and was a 1957 graduate of Madison High School. She was united in marriage on August 28, 1959 at St. Michael Catholic Church to George H. Schmidt. To this happy union arrived three daughters and a son to bless their home. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker all of her life. She did work for a short time for the Indiana Telephone Company as a operator. She enjoyed fishing, reading, dancing, music and practical jokes. She enjoyed the Madison Senior Citizens and was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Rachel died Friday, June 11, 2010 at 4:26 a.m. at the emergency room at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana. A LOVING FAMILY Rachel will be missed by her loving daughters: Rebecca Taylor & her husband: Chris of Madison, Indiana, Julie Dwyer & her: David of Madison, Indiana, Susan Kelley & her husband: Bernard of Madison, Indiana; her loving son: George Anthony "Tony" Schmidt & his wife: Jan of Jacksonville, North Carolina; her sister: Oveda Walker of Columbus, Indiana; her brother: Arthur Perkinson of Madison, Indiana; her grandchildren: Shannon Schmidt, Kristen Schmidt, Nikki Schmidt, Loren Allen, Emily Kelley, Steven Schmidt, Joshua Dwyer, Deron Dwyer, Eli Dwyer, & Evan Kelley; her great grandchildren: Gracie Schmidt, Braeden Schmidt, & Carly Muessel; her companion: Ralph Vogel of Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, cousins & other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father: Pete Collins, her mother: Oveda Handlon Marsh; her step father: Fred Marsh; her infant sister; her brothers: John & Bill Perkinson; her husband: George H. Schmidt died May 4, 1997; her daughter in law: Elisa Schmidt. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., by Father John A. Meyer at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may call Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. THE ROSARY The Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home MEMORIAL EXPRESSIONS Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or St. Jude's. Cards are available at the funeral home.
