"Phil" Orvel Phillip Detmer Obituary (1935

Mr. Orvel Phillip "Phil" Detmer, age 88, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Madison, IN, entered this life on July 9, 1935, in Trimble County, Kentucky. He was the loving son of the late William Ernest and Viola M. Adcock Detmer. He was raised in Trimble County and graduated from Trimble County High School. On August 8, 1954, Phil was united in marriage to Beverly Joyce Mahoney at the Milton United Methodist Church in Milton, Kentucky, where they would become long-time members. This happy union of 62 years was blessed with two daughters, Sheryl (Sherrie) and Lisa. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where his oldest daughter Sheryl (Sherrie) would be born while stationed in Germany. He and his bride then came home to Madison, where they would have their youngest daughter, Lisa, and raise their family for the next twenty plus years. Phil was honorably discharged from the Army in July of 1962.He started his employment with his father at Detmer Construction, then later joined the carpenters' union, where he eventually became employed by Eby Construction. Phil left Madison in 1979 and worked construction across the country in several states upon settling in Florida, where he worked at Disney and Universal. After settling in the Orlando area, Phil and Bev became members of the Tuskawilla United Methodist Church in Casselberry, Florida. He was able to retire from construction in May of 1996.Phil was a carpenter and a woodworker at heart. He enjoyed woodworking all his life. He also loved to travel. He and Bev handmade and sold crafts for many years, attending, and participating in craft shows. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandad, great-grandad, brother, uncle, and friend. He walked with Jesus every day. To know him was to love him. He was a man of faith and loyalty, and a true definition of what a man of God should be. Please Click Here to View the Funeral Service Recording A LOVING FAMILYPhil will be deeply missed by his loving companion, Shirley Steinberger of Orlando, Florida, whom he dated for the last three years; his daughters, Sherrie Fresh and her husband, David of Hanover, Indiana, Lisa Kolb and her husband, Jim of Oviedo, Florida; his grandchildren, Toby Fresh (DeLena), Amber Walls (John), Amanda McDaniel (Mike), Michael Kolb (Jessie), and Phillip Kolb (Channing); his great-grandchildren, Hayley Fresh, Brayden Richards, Olivia Fresh, Jace Walls, Hunter Richards, Mia Kolb, and Skylar Kolb; his brother, Wayne Detmer & his wife, Elyse of Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Beverly Joyce Detmer, who died October 20, 2016, his father, William Ernest Detmer, died July 7, 1987, his mother, Viola M. Adcock Detmer, died April 14, 1960, his stepmother, Pearl Jeanette Crutchlow Tidwell Detmer, died June 12, 1985, and his sister, Norma Jean Detmer Messmore Maddox, died June 2, 2019. CELEBRATION OF LIFE Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14th, 2024, by Rev. Matt Kinnell at the Christian Life Church of Milton (formerly the Milton United Methodist Church), 11100 Hwy 421 North in Milton, Kentucky. Interment will follow in the Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky.
