Patricia Gale Carbert Smith Weaver Obituary (1943

Patricia "Patty" Carbert Smith Weaver, 80, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 at her home in Madison, Indiana. Patty was the beloved daughter of Gladys Marie (Ashby) Bass and Thomas Richard Carbert. She was born and raised in Taylor Mill, Kenton County, Kentucky. She was a 1961 graduate of Simon Kenton High School where she served in the Honor Club and Student Council and was given the superlative "Miss Attractiveness" in her senior year. She went on to work in fashion modeling part-time and at the Greater Cincinnati airport for Hertz Rent-All, which led to her photograph gracing Hertz delivery vans, billboards and advertising throughout the Cincinnati area.In 1967 Patty married Donald Lee Smith and the couple was blessed with the birth of two children, Lee and Suzy. Patty lived in Lexington, Ky and later Frankfort, Ky where she owned and operated Olde Kantucke Bed & Breakfast. She befriended many of her guests and neighbors at the B&B, some of whom remained lifelong friends. While in Frankfort she met Dan Richards, her partner of over 25 years, and together they repaired and resold old homes and buildings with the aim of providing affordable housing. Patty and Dan moved to Madison, Indiana in 1995 where they continued to restore old homes and structures and enjoy life, family and friendships together. Patty had many talents and enjoyed art, music, gardening, cooking, and entertaining friends and family. She was optimistic and generous. She was a wonderful friend and a loving mother. She was a great singer and a terrible dancer. She believed that love always wins. Patty's three grandsons gave her much love, laughter and joy. Her last year of life was especially blessed by her grandson, Sam, who visited her daily as a companion and helper. After entering home hospice in October her children and grandchildren rallied to be sure she could stay where she loved to be the most, at home with her family. Patty is survived by her adoring children, son Donald Lee Smith, Jr. (Arleen) of Chelsea, IN, and daughter Suzanne Smith Laine of Madison, IN, her three grandchildren, Samuel Beach, Chain Wells, and Mason Wells, all of Madison, IN, her loving cousin, Betty Mitchell, of Larkspur, CA, and many close nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her longtime partner, Dan, her children's father, Don, her former husband Dave, whom she married late in life, and her brother, Richard "Butch" Carbert. A celebration of Patty's life is planned for a later date, details will be shared here and with friends and family.
