–

Madison, Indiana

LET US PAUSE TO HONOR THE MEMORY OF

Mrs. Nellie Sims Lichlyter

Nellie J. (Sims) Lichlyter, age 87, of Madison, Indiana entered into this life on June 28, 1930 in Grayson County (Pearmon), Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late David Thomas Sims and Clarabelle (Alvey) Sims. Nellie and her family moved to Jefferson County, Indiana. On June 2, 1951, she was married to Oliver Roe Lichlyter in St. Mary's Church in Madison, Indiana. This happy union of 51 years was blessed with three daughters, Clara, Debra and Maria. Nellie's greatest enjoyments were her family, friends and church. Mrs. Lichlyter was a faithful member of Prince of Peace for 69 years. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and served on several committees at church, including the Rosary Group, Prince of Peace Ladies Organization, and the Parish Tithing Committee. For 18 years, she worked in the cafeteria at Pope John Elementary, where she delighted multiple generations with her savory "Nellie's Hot Rolls." Nellie loved being with her family. She enjoyed family functions, playing games with her granddaughters, playing cards, board games and adult coloring books where she colored many beautiful pictures. She also babysat for several years, spoiling several of the children in the area. Nellie loved to sew, quilt, bake, garden with Ollie, travel and walk for exercise. She made quilts for several family members, Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls, and sock monkeys. She also made all of her children's clothes and stockings that she donated to area nursing homes. Her specialties were cookies, bread, homemade candies, and the delicious produce jams and jellies she canned from her and Ollie's garden. Nellie traveled at every opportunity she had, enjoyed visiting yard sales, flea markets, antique stores and Big Lots. She participated for several years in the Jefferson County Relay for Life. In the last several years, she loved to go to church in Vevay and then to Harry's Stone Grill on Saturdays. Nellie was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, (great) grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Nellie passed away on February 27, 2018 at home surrounded by several loved ones.Click Here for Tribute or Funeral Service Video
