Nathan Andrew Garlinghouse

Mr. Nathan Andrew "Andy" Garlinghouse, age 79, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on June 6, 1932 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late George & Mildred Jones Garlinghouse. He resided all of his life in the Madison community attending school there. Andy was inducted into the United States Army on December 8, 1952 during the Korean War. He rose to the rank of Private First Class serving Battery A 601 AAA Gun Battalion. He was honorably discharged on December 30, 1960, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was united in marriage on June 3, 1961 in Albion, Illinois to Brenda Ann Burkingstock. This happy union was blessed with one son, John. He had worked his early life at the Barber Grocery Company and at King's Daughters' Hospital. He then worked for the U.S. Shoe Corporation for 13 years as the utility operator. Andy retired after 16 years of service with the Madison State Hospital from the carpenter shop. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Andy died Monday, September 19, 2011 at 4:20 a.m. at the Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana. A LOVING FAMILY Andy will be missed by his loving wife: Brenda Ann Burkingstock Garlinghouse of Madison, Indiana; his loving son: John Garlinghouse & his wife, Karen of Atlanta, Indiana; his step granddaughter: Marina Skinner Turner & her husband, Lot; his step great granddaughter: Eleanor Turner; his sister: Nancy Spillman of Coral Gables, Florida; his sisters in law & brothers in law: Janet Bennett of Madison, Indiana, Doris & Dale Cox of Grayville, Illinois, Keith & Sharon Burkingstock of Fayetteville, Georgia; several nieces, nephews & other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Mildred Jones Garlinghouse; his brothers, Bill, Louis "Sonny" & Dan Garlinghouse; his sisters, Betty Copeland & Lois Turner. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 12 Noon, by the Reverend David Leland at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. SPECIAL SERVICES Full military honors will be conducted at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion & the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit. MEMORIAL EXPRESSIONS Memorial contributions may be made to the West Madison United Methodist Church. Cards are available at the funeral home.
