"Mary Jo" Marina J. Dattilo Lohrig Obituary (1931

Mrs. Marina J. "Mary Jo" Dattilo Lohrig, age 88 of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on March 15, 1931, in Madison, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late, Anthony J., Jr. and Mary A. Cianciolo Dattilo. She was the oldest of six children who grew up in a close-knit Italian, Catholic household. She attended St. Mary's grade school, graduated from Madison High School in 1948, and attended college at Our Lady of Cincinnati. Mary Jo was united in marriage to Ronald "Ronnie" Edward Lohrig on October 22, 1951, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in downtown Madison. This happy union of sixty years was blessed with two daughters, Constance "Connie" and JoEllen "Joey". Mary Jo's early work experience was as a bookkeeper in the family-run business of A. Dattilo Fruit Company. Most notably, she is remembered for her thirty-years of public service in Madison Jefferson County (1964 - 1994). She was elected the Jefferson County Clerk of the Circuit Court, (1979 - 1983). Additionally, she served as deputy clerk for many years including for her sister, Donna Jackson's tenure; she also served as deputy auditor, and office manager for the City of Madison's Street Department. She was a lifelong Democrat and former treasurer for the Democrat Women's Club; with one of her proudest moments of traveling with the Jefferson County Delegation for the first and second Presidential Inaugurations of Bill Clinton. During retirement, she maintained a deep interest in politics and current affairs and continued to help with absentee voting and campaigning for the party. Mary Jo was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church; she attended daily rosary service, was a member of the Ladies Organization, served on the funeral committee and volunteered to clean St. Patrick's Church. Mary Jo & Ronnie resided most of their married lives on Hatcher Hill in Madison and for ten years enjoyed being snowbirds in Nokomis, Florida. Mary Jo liked basking in warm rays of sunshine, reading and watching MSNBC and political news. She loved being by Ronnie's side and living close to her daughters, granddaughters, and great granddaughters. She also enjoyed socializing with the Red Hatters of Madison and Nokomis. Mary Jo passed peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 3:40 a.m. at the Hickory Creek of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony J., Jr and Mary A. Cianciolo Dattilo, her husband, Ronald "Ronnie" Edward Lohrig died August 6, 2012, her infant son, Ronald Edward Lohrig, Jr. died Nov. 17, 1961; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George Wesbecker, Bill Jackson, Bill Lohrig, Myrna Dattilo, and Lois Dattilo, her niece and nephew, Leslie Dattilo and Steven Huey. MASS of CHRISTIAN BURIAL A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., Father Christopher Craig at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in downtown Madison, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may visit on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. THE ROSARY The Rosary will be prayed on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
