Madison, Indiana
Mrs. Margaret Robinson, age 93 of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on June 4, 1930 in Austin, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Otto Thomas and Clora Avahnelle Trowbridge Nicholas. Margaret graduated from Austin High School in 1948 and while living in Austin she was a member of the Austin Christian Church. In 1949, Margaret was united in marriage to Uffie C. Henry. This union was blessed with five children; William Douglas, Donald Allen, Thomas Nicholas, Charles Edward and Susan Jane. The family resided in the Kent community and attended the Kent Baptist Church until moving to Hanover.Circumstances found Margaret a single mother left to raise five children on her own. With the love and support of her parents, Margaret successfully raised her five children. As a single mother, she was thrust into the workforce and found work as a waitress. Many will remember Margaret from the breakfast shift at the Dog and Suds restaurant where she was a favorite among her customers. Margaret was recruited by Jack Hereford to work at the Steer Restaurant in the 1970's. It was there she was literally swept off her feet by her future husband, Edward F. Robinson. The 1974 tornado could not stop the marriage of Margaret and Edward on April 7, 1974. Margaret retired from waitressing and traveled the world with Edward. His job would take them from Paducah, Kentucky to Arkansas to Aqaba, Jordan where she would meet the future King of Jordan. After Edward's death on September 23, 1987, Margaret continued to travel the world with her dear friends, Eulena Campbell and Wild Bill Cantrell. The opening of J.C. Penny in Madison brought a new opportunity for Margaret. She cherished her customers and the friendships she made while working there. At the age of 82 with failing eyesight, Margaret retired from J.C.Penny.Always with a book in her hand, Margaret loved gardening, traveling, and spending time at the casino. She spent many a day fishing in the Arkansas River or at Johnson Lake with her grandchildren. Margaret was an amazing mother who made many sacrifices to raise her children and to provide them with experiences and opportunities they will never forget. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and lit up when they came to visit. In 2020, poor health made it necessary for Margaret to move to the Jewel Place. She was affectionately known as Miss Maggie or Magpie by her wonderful caregivers who she thought of as family. Her family is forever grateful to her Jewel Place family who so lovingly cared for her.Miss Maggie died on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 9:05 a.m. at the Jewel Place in Madison, Indiana.
