Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of Mr. Louis D. "Lou" Owens, Jr. Mr. Louis D. "Lou" Owens, Jr., age 91, of Hanover, Indiana entered this life on March 11, 1924 in Madison, Indiana he was the loving son of Louis Sr. and Mabel G. Owens. His mother died when he was nine years old and he was raised by his step mother, Mary M. Owens. Lou was a 1942 graduate of Madison High School where he ran track. He worked early in life for the Ohio Theater in downtown Madison as a projectionist. He was inducted into the United States Navy on November 19, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He rose to the rate of Store Master First Class serving during World War II. Lou was honorably discharged on May 20, 1946 at Great Lakes, Illinois receiving the American Area Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with one star and the Good Conduct Ribbon. On August 27, 1953 he was united in marriage to Betty V. Carpenter, This happy union of fifty one years was blessed with a daughter, Betty Lou. His wife of fifty one years passed away on April 4, 2004. Lou retired in 1988 after 34 years of service with the Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation in Madison where he began as a time keeper and retired from maintenance. On November 7, 2007, Lou was united in marriage to Dorothy Jo Evans Morrison by Rev. Greg Russell from the First Christian Church in downtown Madison. Lou was a faithful member of the First Christian Church and served on all committees, he currently was an Elder Emeritus. Lou had served as a past president of the Madison Regatta and as a past president of the Madison Jaycees. He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, painting and being with his family. Louis died on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 12:14 a.m. at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana. Click Here for Funeral Service or Tribute Video A LOVING FAMILY Louis will be missed by his loving wife of nine years, Dorothy Jo, Evans Morrison Owens of Hanover, Indiana; his loving and devoted daughter, Betty Lou Maddox and her husband, Mike of Madison, Indiana; his loving granddaughters, Sasha Gray and her husband, B.J., Sarah Bowyer and Sonja Bowyer; his adoring great grandchildren, Cade, Kai and Kealia; his sister in law, Anna Carpenter of Madison, Indiana; nephews and niece that he was really close to, Bobby Carpenter, Regina Kinman and Frankie Owens; his step daughter, Kathy Flores and her husband, Ben of Hanover, Indiana; his step sons, William David Morrison, Jr.. and his wife, Cheryl of Kelso, Washington, Rick Lee Morrison and his wife, Rita of Greenwood, Indiana; his step grandchildren, Jeff Flores (Melanie), Scott Flores (Sean), Jeanette Shelton (Tony), Tim Morrison (Diana), Eric Morrison (Danielle), Kristin Morrison, Debbie Schultz (Larry), Celinda Skrogsberg (Shawn), Gina Taylor (Monte), Aaron Morrison (Lily), Justin Maddox (Amanda); his step great grandchildren, Christopher, Kyle, Alida, Ben, Alex, Elena, Braylen, Autumn Gunner, Andrea, Amber, Tyler, Ryan, Sarah, Jamelia, Perla; several nieces, nephews and other relatives, ; . He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Owens, Sr., his mother, Mabel G. Owens, his step mother that raised him, Mary M. Owens, wife of fifty one years, Betty V. Carpenter Owens, died April 4, 2004, his brothers, George Owens and Frank Owens, his sister, Norma Hinds Moore; his brothers in law, Robert L. Carpenter, Sr. and Paul Carpenter, and his step son, Jerry Ray Morrison. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 1:30 p.m., by Rev. Bill Johnson at the First Christian Church, 512 West Main Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana VISITATION Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana and Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the First Christian Church, 512 West Main Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. MILITARY HONORS A final salute will be conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in downtown Madison by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion with full military honors to follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.
