Janet Carolyn Burke Long

Mrs. Janet Carolyn Burke Long, was born on July 9, 1947 in Madison, Indiana the daughter of the late Glenn Elbert Burke and Alda Elberta Wehner Burke. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and community member. A Madison native, she graduated from Madison High School in 1965 and later furthered her education at Spencerian College and Northwood University, where she earned a degree in business administration. She was united in marriage on July 20, 1968 at the First Baptist Church in downtown Madison to Ronald Keith Long. The union was blessed with a daughter, LaQuita, and a son, Damon, to bless their home. Janet carried her love for her community into her career as an administrative assistant, first to the Colonel at the Jefferson Proving Ground for over 25 years and later to the President of Grote Industries, where she served for 20 years before her retirement. A woman of many talents and interests, Janet was known for her gardening, cooking, making cakes, shopping, and sewing. Above all, her greatest joy was caring for her family. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where she was an avid volunteer. Janet passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at River Terrace Health Campus in Madison, Indiana.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ronald Keith Long of Madison, Indiana; her daughter, LaQuita Long Schwartz (Aaron) of Cincinnati, Ohio; her son, Damon Long of Madison, Indiana; her grandchildren Nathan Schwartz and Jenna Schwartz; her brother, Gary L. Burke of Madison, Indiana; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elaine Meier of Madison, Indiana, Jenita Long of Madison, Indiana, Mary Arbuckle of Madison, Indiana, Dora Ann Powell of Madison, Indiana, Penny Long of Madison, Indiana, David Long (Linda) of Lexington, Indiana, Eston Long (Cindy) of Hanover, Indiana, Kenny Long (Jackie) of Madison, Indiana; her several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Elbert Burke, and her mother, Alda Elberta Wehner Burke; her brother, Roger Glenn Burke.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, located at 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Indiana, 47250. A second visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, located at 416 Vine Street, Madison, Indiana, 47250. The funeral ceremony will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, 9306 North U.S. 421 near Madison, Indiana.
