Ives Eugene "Gene" Smith Obituary (1932

Mr. Ives Eugene "Gene" Smith, age 76, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on October 26, 1932, in Elnora, Indiana in Daviess County, the son of Charles & Minnie Harris Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised in Edwardsport and was a graduate of the high school there. He was united in marriage on December 6, 1956, in Freelandville, Indiana to Mary Frances Emmel. To this union arrived two daughters to bless their home. He was inducted into the United States Navy on December 4, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana, rising to the rank of Fire Control Tech Third Class during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1960, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed from December 1956 to December 1993 at the Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation in operations. He was a member of the Madison Moose Lodge #765, the Madison VFW Post 1969 and Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion. He was a member of the North Madison Christian Church. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and socializing with family and friends. Gene was a very patriotic citizen and held great respect for every veteran. Gene died Friday, April 10, 2009 at 9:10 am at his home in Madison, Indiana with his loving family at his side. A LOVING FAMILY Gene will be missed by his loving daughters: Linda L. Smith - Gross of Madison, Indiana and Nancy Owen & her husband: Jeffrey of Madison, Indiana; his devoted grandchildren: Martha Elizabeth Gross Ebley & her husband: Jacob; Amy Michelle Owen; Christopher William Owen & his fiancee: Gennifer Jines; his sister: Norma C. Mezoe of Sanborn, Indiana; companion: Naomi Mack of Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews & other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles & Minnie Harris Smith; his wife: Mary Frances Emmel Smith died on June 26, 2000. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 11:00 am, by Bro. Bob Hicks, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Full military honors will be conducted in the chapel at the Indiana Veteran's Memorial Cemetery by the U.S. Navy Great Lakes Ceremonial Unit and Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may call Monday from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm and Tuesday from 9:00 am until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
