Hillis C. "Barney" Barnsfather Obituary (1936

Mr. Hillis C. "Barney" Barnsfather, age 74, of Hanover, Indiana, entered this life on January 15, 1936 in Pleasureville, Kentucky. He was the son of Charlie & Iva Ruth Nelson Barnsfather, both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised in Pleasureville, Kentucky. He moved to Columbus, Indiana in 1948 and graduated high school there. He resided there until 1975. He was inducted into the United States Army on March 12, 1954 and rose to the rank of Private in the Korean War, serving the Medical Corp of the 46th Surgical Hospital . He was honorably discharged on December 14, 1956. He was a self employed carpenter all of his life and had resided in Jefferson County since 1975. He enjoyed gardening, walking his dog, Snookie, he enjoyed watching wrestling. He was a member of the West Madison United Methodist Church, the Madison VFW Post 1969 and Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion. Hillis died Friday, March 12, 2010 at 4:04 p.m. at the Hanover Health & Rehab Center in Hanover, Indiana. A LOVING FAMILY Barney will be missed by his sons: Gregory Barnsfather and Brian Dale Barnsfather both of Columbus, Indiana; his grandson: Brian Barnsfather, Jr.; his brothers: Grebus Barnsfather and Winfred "Putt" Barnsfather both of Columbus, Indiana; his sisters: Virginia Malone, Mary Sylvia and Helen Wheatley of Columbus, Indiana; several nieces, nephews & other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie & Iva Ruth Nelson Barnsfather; his companion: Martha L. Montgomery Boyd died: August 17, 2007; his sister: Katie Kinman; his grandson: Zachary Barnsfather; his brothers: Charles Barnsfather and Morrison Barnsfather. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., by the Rev. David Leland at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. Full military honors will be conducted in the Indiana Veteran's Memorial Chapel, by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion. VISITATION Friends may call Sunday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
