Gwendoline "Gwen" D. Read Mays Obituary (1933

Mrs. Gwendoline D. "Gwen" Read Mays, age 91 of Hanover, Indiana, entered this life on April 9, 1933 in London, England. She was the loving daughter of the late Harry and Sarah Eskilston Read. She was raised in England and was a graduate of Mulberry High School. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Keith Mays on May 17, 1951 in Woodstock, England. This happy union of 55 years was blessed with two daughters, Beverley and LaQuita, and a son, Rusty. She came to the United States with Bill in 1952 and remained here the rest of her life. She retired from Southwestern High School after 25 years of service as a cook and cashier. She attended Hanover Baptist Church and belonged to the Red Hat Society, Sweet Adelines, Music Valley Singers, and Fern and the Gang. She enjoyed singing, reading and going to casinos, in addition to being an avid bowler. Gwen died on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 2:30 a.m. at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. Please Click Here to View the Funeral Service Recording A LOVING FAMILY Gwen will be missed by her loving daughters, Beverley Rockwell of Madison, Indiana, LaQuita Featherstone and her husband Dale of Lexington, Indiana; her loving son, Ruskin "Rusty" Mays and his wife Rachelle of Pewee Valley, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Sommer Johnson Hancock, Tiffany Idlewine (Rodney), Quinton Featherstone (Christy), Jackson "Jax" Mays, and Brent McMahan II; her great grandchildren, Spencer Hancock, Braxton Idlewine, Tobias Idlewine, Ryker Idlewine, Brayden Featherstone, Chayton Featherstone, Aiyana Featherstone; her sisters, Chris Ward of Reading, Marion Robbins of Longhand Bourough, England; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Read, her mother, Sarah Eskilston Read, her husband of 55 years, William Keith Mays, died October 30, 2006, her brothers, Richard Read, David Read and Graham Read, her sisters in law, Wilma Mays, Rachel Hawk, Roberta Kirk, Patricia Schuring, and Becky Brawner, her brothers in law, Preston Hawk, Jerry Brawner, George Robbins, Brian Ward, and her son in law, Irvin Wayne Rockwell, died October 29, 2016. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Kinzer Havill at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Madison, Indiana VISITATION Friends may visit, Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
