Edgar F. Humphrey Obituary (1923

Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of Mr. Edgar F. Humphrey Mr. Edgar F. Humphrey, age 90, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on December 20, 1923 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late, George Edgar and Eva Mae Alexander Humphreys. He resided most all of his life in Madison and was a 1942 graduate of Madison High School. Edgar was inducted into the United States Army on February 6, 1943 at Fort Benjamin Harrison during World War II. He served in the 233rd Port Company and fought in the battles and campaigns of the Southern Philippines in the South Pacific. Edgar was honorably discharged on December 10, 1945 from Camp Atterbury, Indiana with the rate of Technician Fifth Grade. He received the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic - Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Edgar was united in marriage to Rosella Rice on April 30, 1950 in Madison, Indiana by Rev. Vincent. This happy union of fifty eight years was blessed with two daughters, Margaret Rose and Eva Marie. Edgar worked for ten years in maintenance with the Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation in Madison. He then worked for twenty years, retiring in 1986 as a Senior Maintenance Analysis with Dow Corning in Carrollton, Kentucky. He was a member of Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion and Madison VFW Post 1969. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, sitting with his friend and watching the Ohio River and fellow shipping at Hammond's Restaurant. He was a devoted husband, loving dad and grandpa. Edgar died on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 5:00 a.m. at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. A LOVING FAMILY Edgar will be missed by his loving daughters, Margaret Rose "Candy" Consley and her husband, Terry of Madison, Indiana, Eva Marie Distel and her husband, George Anthony "Tony" of Madison, Indiana; his granddaughters, Rebecca Rose Consley Spicer and her husband, Justin, Kimberly Marie Consley-Eaglin and her husband, Derek, Kaitlin Marie Distel and her fiancee, George Hale; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edgar and Eva Marie Alexander Humphreys, his wife of fifty eight years, Rosella Rice Humphrey, died May 23, 2008; his sisters, Margaret McDaniels and Emeretta Meek. PRIVATE CEREMONY Interment was in the Springdale Cemetery, 600 West Fifth Street in Madison, Indiana MEMORIAL EXPRESSIONS Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
