Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of Mrs. E. Joan Higgins Baxter Mrs. E. Joan Higgins Baxter, age 76, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on January 17, 1939 in Jefferson County, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late, Lawrence, Sr. and Edith Faye Saylor Higgins. She was raised in Madison and later attended Vevay High School. She resided most of her life in Madison and was united in marriage on Nov. 1, 1957 to Howard R. Baxter. They shared 46 and a half years of marriage together until his death on July 4, 2004. This happy union was blessed with a son, Dennis and a daughter, Lisa. She was employed early in life with Conn Organ Company and then later with the U.S. Shoe Corporation in downtown Madison for ten and a half years. She retired as manager of the Hot Bar at the Sirloin Stockade in Madison. She was a member of the West Madison United Methodist Church and Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to collect angels and hummingbirds. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and adoring grandma. Joan was awaiting the birth of her first great grandchild. Joan died on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at 2:50 p.m. at The Water's of Clifty Falls in Madison, Indiana. Click Here for Funeral Service A LOVING FAMILY Joan will be missed by her loving son, Dennis Baxter and his wife, Theresa of Madison, Indiana; her loving daughter, Lisa Howard and her husband, Larry of Carrollton, Kentucky; her granddaughters, Charity Michelle and Eva Renae; her brothers, Ralph Higgins and his wife, Beverly of Madison, Indiana, Charles Higgins and his wife, Donna of Bloomington, Indiana; her sisters, Caroline Tevis and her husband, Joe of Hanover, Indiana, Rosemary Sullivan and her husband, Bill of Vevay, Indiana; her sisters in law and brothers in law, Leona Higgins of Madison, Indiana; Earl Graham Baxter and his wife, Jessie of Deputy, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence, Sr. and Edith Faye Saylor Baxter; her husband, Howard R. Baxter died July 4, 2004; and her brothers, Herman and Lawrence Higgins, Jr. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 26, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Mike Shuler at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Lick Branch Cemetery near Deputy, Indiana VISITATION Friends may call Sunday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
