Druzilla Lloyd "Ziddy" Poindexter Matthews Obituary (1919

Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of Mrs. Druzilla "Ziddy" Lloyd Poindexter Matthews Mrs. Druzilla "Ziddy" Lloyd Poindexter Matthews, age 94, of Hanover, Indiana, entered this life on January 14, 1919 in Shoals, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late, Lloyd and Opal Kessler Poindexter. She resided one year in Shoals and the family moved back to Madison, Indiana. Ziddy was a 1938 graduate of Madison High School. On December 27, 1941 Ziddy was united in marriage to Francis "Franny" Joseph Matthews at St. Mary's Catholic Church in downtown Madison. This happy union was blessed with one son, Robert Joseph Matthews. After they were married they resided in Denver, Colorado for a short time. Ziddy and Franny managed the Madison Country Club from 1951-1958 in Madison, Indiana, Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis from 1958-1965, and the Indianapolis Country Club from 1965-1967. In 1967, they moved back to Madison to manage the country club once again. Francis and Ziddy enjoyed thirty two years of marriage together until his death on December 24, 1973. After Franny's death she continued to work at the Madison Country Club until 1980 when she decided to retire. Ziddy met her companion of the past 39 years, noted writer and arranger of music, Carroll DeCamp while he was playing solo piano at the Madison Country Club. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison, Madison Tri Kappa inactive chapter and the Madison Elks Club No. 524. Ziddy loved to socialize and shop for antiques. After retirement, she worked for a short time at "My Lady Dress Shoppe" and "B.J. Dress Shop" in downtown Madison. Ziddy died on Monday, September 23, 2013, at 3:45 PM at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. A LOVING FAMILY Ziddy will be missed by her loving daughter in law, Jennifer Bordenet Matthews of Indianapolis, Indiana; her loving granddaughters, Christy Bailey and her husband, Bryan, Tracy Aszkler and her husband, Jon, Amanda Archey and her husband, Darnell; her adoring great grandchildren, Breyden, Logan, Kelsey, Jonathan, Abby, Allie and Ava; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by father, Lloyd Poindexter, mother, Opal Kessler Poindexter, husband, Francis Joseph Matthews, died December 24, 1973, companion of thirty nine years, Carroll Milton DeCamp, died, September 19, 2013, son, Robert Joseph Matthews died, June 9, 2012, her brothers, Bill & Charles Poindexter; her sisters, Mildred L. Hertz and Mary R. Greathouse. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Funeral mass will be conducted on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. by Father Christopher Craig at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may call Sunday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana.
