Dorissey E. Schafer Obituary (1929

Mrs. Dorissey E. "Momo" Moores Schafer, age 81, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on June 26, 1929 in Jefferson County, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late, Benjamin Franklin & Maggy Pearl Lawrence Moores. She was raised in Jefferson County and was a graduate of Central High School. She was united in marriage on February 26, 1949 in Madison, Indiana to Francis "Frankie" Schafer. This union was blessed with four daughters and a son to bless this home. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and "Momo". She enjoyed volunteering of her time and helping with the rummage sales for the Catholic Churches. She was very active in the parent teachers association at St. Mary's & St. Michael Schools. She was a faithful member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She enjoyed attending her son's church in North Vernon, Indiana. She enjoyed membership in the Madison VFW Post 1969 Auxiliary, Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765 and The Eagles Lodge. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, making china dolls, making doll clothes, collecting Barbie Dolls, dancing, flea markets, eating out and shopping. Dorissey died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 9:04 a.m. at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana. A LOVING FAMILY Dorissey will be missed by her loving daughters: Beverly Akers & her husband, Terry of Bethlehem, Georgia, Mary Francis Lauter & her husband, Galen of Hanover, Indiana, Diana Mahoney & her husband, James of Madison, Indiana; her loving son: Rev. Lawrence E. Schafer & his wife, Susan of North Vernon, Indiana; her loving son in law: Bill Stites of Madison, Indiana; her brother: Paul Delbert Moore & his wife, Veronica of Madison, Indiana; her grandchildren: Tammy Stewart, Tina Voris, Valerie Martin, Melissa Crisp, Kristopher Akers, Stacy Lauter, Glen Mahoney, Maggy Mahoney, Jessica Schafer, Rachel Schafer, Lydia Schafer, Rebecca Schafer, & Andrea Ticknor; her great-grandchildren: Bethany, Traci, Autumn, Everett, Katelynn, Karissa, Nicholas, Katelyn, Madison, Britain, Caleb, & Uhriah; several nieces, nephews & other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin & Maggy Pearl Lawrence Moores; her husband, Francis "Frankie" Schafer died, May 14, 1998; her sisters, Mary Long, Bertha Taylor, Rebecca Long, & Myrtle Elizabeth Davis; her brothers, William Benjamin Moores & Benjamin Moores; her daughter: Pearl Elizabeth Stites died, July 21, 2010; her nephew, Lawrence "Willie" Davis. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., by Father John A. Meyer at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may call Friday from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. SPECIAL SERVICES The Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home; The Madison Post 1969 VFW Auxiliary & Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion Auxiliary Services will hold services on Friday at 7:00 p.m. MEMORIAL EXPRESSIONS Memorial contributions may be made to the Doris Schafer Memorial Fund.
