Delbert Henry "Billy" Bruther Obituary (1930

HANOVER CHAPELMr. Delbert Henry "Billy" Bruther, age 91, of Hanover, Indiana entered this life on May 1, 1930 in Hanover, Indiana. The loving son of the late Gordon W. and Eva Mae Means Bruther, Delbert resided all of his life in the Hanover community and was of the Baptist faith. His mother died when he was 11 years old and his sisters - Margie, Luci, Waneta and Emma Lou - all played an instrumental role in helping raise him. Delbert was united in marriage to Deloris Wyne on September 16, 1950 in Jefferson County, Indiana. This happy union of nearly 71 years was blessed with children, Danny Delbert, Debra Deann, Donna Jean, Diane Deloris, De Linda Dea, David Dale and Darrin Eugene. His family nicknamed him "Billy" and a lot of his friends called him "Deb". A farmer at heart, he enjoyed the farm all of his life and was especially proud of his recently restored International Harvester 706 tractor. When he wasn't farming, he often helped his father with the bus route for the Southwestern school system and later worked 10 years in maintenance for Jeff Boat in Jeffersonville. Delbert also hauled gravel and lime for neighbors and area farmers. Given the honorary title "Mayor of Hanover," he loved making his daily rounds to Dicus Farm and Implement Store to catch up on the news, socializing with his best friend "Shorty" and venturing to Hinkle's Sandwich Shoppe in downtown Madison. He enjoyed cooking, eating, being the "Candy Man" to many area children, visiting yard sales, gardening, sharing his produce with neighbors and friends, and fishing. His favorite roles in life though were being a great husband, devoted dad, loving papaw and a fantastic brother and uncle. Delbert died on Friday, July 2, 2021, at 8:40 a.m. at his home in Hanover, Indiana with his devoted family at his side. Bruther, died August 15, 1984, his mother, Eva Mae Means Bruther, died December 7, 1941, his step mother, Elma Lowe Bruther, died December 26, 1995, his sisters, Emily Lou Bruther Mundt, died February 7, 1948, Marjorie "Margie" I. Bruther Vestal, died October 31, 2003, Waneta Ella Bruther Clark, died June 17, 2019, and Lucille "Luci" Bruther Jackson died March 31, 2021, his brother, William "Bill" G. Bruther died December 27, 2020, his son, Danny Delbert Bruther died June 14, 1997; his brothers in law and sisters in law, Millis "Lindy" Jackson, died September 13, 1998, Alva N. Vestal, died in 1988, Richard F. Mundt, died August 16, 1984, Jim Clark, died March 21, 1990, Lee Bruther, died December 19, 2017, Peggy Bruther, died October 17, 2017, Garrold Lee Wyne, died April 20, 2007, Mary Ann Whelan Wyne, died April 21, 2018, Marion Nicholas "Nick" Wyne, died May 11, 2018, Norma Jean Ashby, died February 9, 2005, and Charles Ashby, died May 9, 1974; his three grandchildren, John died February 16, 1978, Raymond died January 15, 1979 and Amy Cline died December 18, 1979. FUNERAL CEREMONYFuneral services will be conducted Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Mike Johnson, Pastor Steve Waller at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre - Hanover Chapel, 278 East Main Street Hanover, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Carmel Cemetery in Hanover, Indiana.
