Dealton "Dee" Froman Bennett Obituary (1922

Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of Mr. Dealton "Dee" Froman Bennett Mr. Dealton "Dee" Froman Bennett, age 92, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on November 16, 1922 in Switzerland County near Markland, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late, Clarence W. and Hazel Marie Froman Bennett. He resided in Switzerland County until the age of 15 when he moved to Madison. Dee attended the Center Square Church of Christ in Center Square, Indiana. On March 15, 1943 he was inducted into the United States Army during World War II. He rose to the rank of private first class serving in Battery B 770th Field Artillery Battalion. He fought in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland. He was wounded in March 1945 in Germany. Dee was honorably discharged on January 6, 1946 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana receiving the EAME Theater Medal with four bronze battles stars; American Theater Victory Medal; Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Dee was united in marriage in 1946 to Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Green. Dee and Betty would share fifty two years of marriage together until her death on July 5, 1998. Dee worked as an iron worker from 1946-1949. In 1949 he became the owner and operator of Bennett Tow Boat Service and also owned and operated Bennett Marine Service on the Madison riverfront until his death. He enjoyed his beautiful home overlooking the Ohio River on the Corner of South Walnut Street and Vaughn Drive. You would often hear the horns as he blew them as the boats passed by. Dee was a member of the American Legion Jefferson Post 9, the Madison VFW Post 1969 and the Madison Elks Lodge No. 524. Dee and Betty were a fashionable couple who enjoyed the many social events they attended together. Dee loved the Ohio River, socializing and was an avid entrepreneur. Dee died on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at 7:52 a.m. at his home in downtown Madison, Indiana. Click Here for Funeral Service or Tribute Video A LOVING FAMILY Dee will be missed by his loving sister, Marietta Mae Bennett Lester of Vevay, Indiana; his brother, Gary Bennett of Center Square, Indiana; his nephews and nieces, Charles Lester, Denver Lester, Roger Lester, William C. Bennett, Jr., Jody Bennett, Jill Bennett, and Eddie Bennett; his caregivers, Debbie Stultz and Iris Perkinson; several great nieces, great nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence W. Bennett, died January 28, 1981, his mother, Hazel Marie Froman Bennett, died May 11, 1931, his step mother, Lena G. Bennett, died June 10, 2005, his wife of fifty two years, Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Green Bennett, died July 5, 1998, his brothers, Stanley H. Bennett, died Oct. 24, 2000; Gerald Bennett and William Copeland "Bill" Bennett, Sr. died April 25, 2008, his cousin whom was like a brother, Earl L. Bennett, died August 15, 1992, his best friend, Joe E. Ricketts, died December 14, 2009. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., by Rev. Mike Straub at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky VISITATION Friends may call Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. MILITARY HONORS A final salute will be conducted on Thursday June, 25, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion with full honors to follow at the Moffett Cemetery by the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. The procession will follow the Madison Riverfront and pause at the Bennett home for the final blowing of the horns in honor of Dee.
