Carl Richard "Rich" Gammons, Sr. Obituary (1933

Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of Mr. Carl Richard "Rich" Gammons, Sr. Mr. Carl Richard "Rich" Gammons, Sr., age 81, of Deputy, Indiana entered this life on November 12, 1933 in Bedford, Kentucky. He was the loving son of the late, Carl Losey and Ruby Houston Horine Gammons. He was raised in Bedford and attended school there. He was united in marriage to Sharon Schmidt and this union was blessed with a son, Douglas and a daughter, Lisa Jane. Rich was inducted into the United States Army on July 7, 1953 and rose to the rate of sergeant during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. On June 3, 1960 he was united in marriage to Ella Jean McClanahan in New Albany, Indiana. This happy union of fifty five years was blessed with a son, Carl Richard, Jr. and daughters, Joan Elizabeth and Ruth June. Rich had resided in Deputy since 1960 and enjoyed his many friends in the community. He drove a bus early in life for the White Star Bus Lines to Columbus. He then worked for 33 years with Cummins Engine Company in Columbus until becoming disabled. While at Cummins he held many different positions finishing as an engine inspector. Rich enjoyed gardening, playing pool, playing euchre, reading, studying the Bible, watching UK Basketball, recalling memories, hunting mushrooms, building bird houses, wood stars and enjoyed a great debate. Rich was devoted to his family, was proud to have built his own home and loved his grandchildren and great grandson. He was a faithful member of Solid Rock Community Church near Deputy. Rich died on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 7:24 p.m. at the Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Click Here for Funeral Service or Tribute Video A LOVING FAMILY Rich will be missed by his loving wife of fifty five years, Ella Jean McClanahan Gammons of Deputy, Indiana; his loving daughters, Lisa Jane Molhook of Phoenix, Arizona, Joan Elizabeth "Joanie" Arrowood Spellman and her husband, Lee of Deputy, Indiana, Ruth June "Ruthie" Martin Gammons of Deputy, Indiana; his loving son, Carl Richard "Rick" Gammons, Jr. of Deputy, Indiana; his grandchildren, Amanda Lichlyter (Kevin), Kari Arrowood, Jeffrey Arrowood (Cortney), Charles Ross Martin, Ella Jean Martin, Della Louise Martin and William Gammons; his great grandson, Gabriel Arrowood; his brother, Walter Gammons and his wife, Lisa of Lafayette, Louisiana; his sisters in law and brothers in laws, Mary Evelyn Fredenburgh of Mainville, Ohio, Charles McClanahan and his wife, Wanda of Paris Crossing, Indiana, Barbara McClanahan of Deputy, Indiana, Frances McClanahan Mullikin and her husband, Don of Bedford, Kentucky, Carolyn Eversole of Hanover, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Losey Gammons, his mother, Ruby Houston Horine Gammons, his son, Douglas Gammons, his son in law, Jeffrey Allen Arrowood, died April 1, 1990, his brothers, Norman, Gerald and Perry Harmon Gammons, his sisters, Docia Wilson, Ramona Clement, Joan McCutchen and Ruth Gill, his mother in law, Margaret E. McClanahan. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 25, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., by Pastor Mike Shuler at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Lick Branch Cemetery near Deputy, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may call Saturday from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. MILITARY HONORS A final salute will be conducted on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion with full military honors to follow at the graveside.
