"Billy" William Calvert Chatham Obituary (1944

Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of Mr. William Calvert Chatham, Sr. Mr. William Calvert Chatham, Sr., age 76, of Deputy, Indiana, entered this life on June 12, 1944 in Trimble County, Kentucky. He was the loving son of James Lee and Myrtle Mae Coghill Chatham. He was a 1962 graduate of Trimble County High School in Milton, Kentucky. Billy loved softball and had went to the Cincinnati Reds Training Camp and tried out for the Pittsburgh Pirates. On January 17, 1967, he was inducted into the United States Army and rose to the rate of private serving during the Vietnam War Era. He was honorably discharged on April 16, 1968 receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He was united in marriage in 1968 to Linda Edwards who passed away on February 17, 1978. This union was blessed with a daughter, Julie, and a son, Billie Joe. He also gained with this marriage three sons and one daughter. He was a construction worker for many years, having worked with Senior Engineers in Florence, Kentucky. A later marriage added two more sons to Billy's life. He was a member of the Contractors-Boilermakers Union 242 for many years. Billy served on the Honor Guard of Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion for 13 years, plus held membership in Post 9, Madison VFW 1969 and Madison Moose Lodge No. 765. An avid fan of University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball and NASCAR - especially driver Kyle Busch, Billy enjoyed fishing, being with his little canine buddy Pee Wee, socializing and being with his family. In his spare-time, he liked to watch old Western movies starring John Wayne, wrestling and reruns of the Andy Griffith Show. Billy died on Friday, October 9, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at his home in Deputy, Indiana with his loving family at this side. Please Click Here to View the Video Tribute Please Click Here to View the Funeral Service Recording A LOVING FAMILY Billy will be missed by his loving sons, William Chatham, Jr. and his wife Kim of Madison, Indiana, Michael Shannon Chatham of Madison, Indiana, John Chatham of Louisville, Kentucky, Billy Joe Chatham of Deputy, Indiana, Curtis Chatham and his wife Krista of Madison, Indiana, Corey Chatham of Madison, Indiana, David "Spanky" Copeland and his wife Dana of Bedford, Kentucky, James Copeland and his wife Lee of Hanover, Indiana; his loving daughters, Julie Caldwell and her husband Johnny of Deputy, Indiana and Debbie Reece and her husband Delbert of Madison, Indiana; his brothers, Robert Chatham and his wife Pam of Vevay, Indiana, Ralph Chatham and his wife Denise of Hanover, Indiana, Freddy Chatham of Hanover, Indiana, Roy Douglas Chatham and his wife Sheila of Milton, Kentucky, Richard Coghill and his wife, Dixie of Scipio, Indiana, Frankie Coghill of Clarksville, Tennessee; his sisters, Wilma Anderson of Madison, Indiana, Virginia Richardson and her husband Russell, Jr. of Paris, Indiana, Lois Bennett of Madison, Indiana, Doris Beard and her husband Mike of Milton, Kentucky, Sue Cull and her husband Dick of Milton, Indiana, Shirley Davidson and her husband Ed of Frankfort, Kentucky, Betty Aulick of Madison, Indiana, Joann Cox of Deputy, Indiana, Mary Lou Smolarczyk of Madison, Indiana; 21-grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, James Lee Chatham, died April 26, 1984, his mother, Myrtle Mae Coghill Chatham, died February 2, 2003, his brothers, Victor "Buddy" Chatham, died March 7, 2002 and James Allen Chatham, died August 28, 1996, his sister, Linda Worcester, his grandchildren, Gracie Lynn Chatham and Stephen Chatham, his wife, Linda Edwards Chatham, died February 17, 1978. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., by Rodney Nay and Chaplain Mike Bath at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow at a later date in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, 9306 North U.S. 421 near Madison, Indiana. VISITATION Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. MILITARY HONORSA final salute will be conducted by Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion with full military honors to follow at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
