Bernard Malcolm "Bernie" Fisher Obituary (1932

Mr. Bernard Malcolm Fisher, age 77, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on February 2, 1932, in Trimble County, Kentucky, the son of Jesse Joseph "Elmo" & Nettie Callis Fisher, both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised in Trimble County, Kentucky and graduated high school there in 1951. He was employed at Williamson Heater in Madison for several years. He then was inducted into the United States Army on Nov. 22, 1952 in Louisville, Kentucky during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Private. He served in the 42nd Tank Battalion 101st Airborne Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged on November 9, 1954 and returned home to Madison. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal. He was united in marriage on June 30, 1951, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church to Nancy Beavin. To this union arrived two daughters and a son to bless their home. He was employed on Jan. 12, 1953 at the Madison State Hospital in Madison, Indiana, a career that spanned over forty years, retiring on Feb. 10, 1999 as the fire safety security director. He had enjoyed membership in the Madison Optimist Club, the Madison Elks Lodge #524, the Madison Moose Lodge #765, Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Shawe Booster Club and the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He enjoyed driving the Pep Club Bus for Shawe. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, yard work, restoration work and going to the Madison Senior Citizens Dances. Bernard died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 12:40 am at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. A LOVING FAMILY Bernie will be missed by his loving wife of fifty eight years: Nancy Beavin Fisher of Madison, Indiana; his loving daughters: Charlene Fisher Zoeller & her husband: Curt of Louisville, Kentucky and Carolyn Fisher Van Luchene & her husband: Craig of Carmel, Indiana; his daughter in law: Julie Owens Fisher of Madison, Indiana; his loving grandchildren: Audrey Caroline Zoeller, Christian Andrew Zoeller, Erika Marie Fisher & Bernard Christopher Fisher; his brother: Rev. Cecil Fisher & his wife: Selma of Madison, Indiana; his half sister: Virginia Lambert of California; his sisters: Mary Prather of Toledo, Ohio; Norma Dunlap of Bedford, Kentucky; Lois Price & her husband: Gerald of Campbellsburg, Kentucky; his brother in law: Mike Beavin & his wife: Rose of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews & other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jesse Joseph Elmo & Nettie Callis Fisher; his son: Christopher Malcolm Fisher died: April 20, 1997; his brother: Eldred Callis Fisher. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00 am, by the Rev. John A. Meyer, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Madison, Indiana with full military honors conducted by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion. VISITATION Friends may call Friday from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Saturday from 8:30 am to 9:20 am at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. ROSARY SERVICE The Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7:00 pm at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. MEMORIAL EXPRESSIONS Memorial contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church or Retired Senior Volunteer Program or Madison Senior Citizens Dance Fund.
