Let Us Pause To Honor The Memory Of Mr. Bennie Truman Chandler Mr. Bennie Truman Chandler, 80, of Canaan, Indiana, entered this life on April 15, 1932, in Trimble County, Kentucky. He was the loving son of Redford Taylor and Lillian Bell McDole Chandler. He was raised on Corn Creek in Trimble County, Ky. He attended school in Trimble County, Ky. He served in the Navy from Feb. 29, 1952, to Feb. 6, 1956, rising to the rank of Seaman First Class during the Korean War. He served in the Naval Reserves until Feb. 28, 1960. He was first employed with U.S. Shoe Corp. in Madison and then with Rex-Chainbelt in Madison, Mango Lewis Sanitation and the Jefferson County Highway Department. He drove a school bus for 32 years for Madison Consolidated Schools and also farmed. He enjoyed his horses, helping his neighbors, socializing and pulling ponies. He would often drive the Amish where they needed to go. He was a member of the Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969, the Switzerland County Saddle Club and the Mule Club. Bennie died Monday, October 1, 2012 at 6:00 a.m. at his home near Canaan, Indiana. SURVIVORS Bennie is survived by his companion, Cheryl Ann Scott of Canaan; six daughters, Peggy Jo Chandler and Patty Jean Phagan. both of Madison, Carolyn Sue Demaree of Osgood, Beverly Ann Owen of Manville, Rebecca Lynn Watson of Canaan and Jessica Lynn Chandler of LaPlata, Md.; three sisters, Doris Moler of Madison and Judy Jones and Phyllis June Kirby, both of Milton, Ky.; two brothers, Roger Chandler and Eugene Chandler, both of Madison; one step sister, Cookie Birge of Dupont; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Carolyn Hopper, whom he married Dec. 18, 1954, and who died June 28, 1985; one daughter, Sandra Kay Chandler, who died March 8, 1984; his parents; one sister, Dottie Winkle, who died Oct. 2, 2011; two brothers, J.R. Chandler, who died Sept. 2, 2006 and Grover Chandler; and one step grandson. FUNERAL CEREMONY The funeral will be conducted by, Pastor Ron Lee at 1 p.m. Friday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Cemetery in Pleasant, Indiana. Full military honors will be conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. MILITARY HONORS Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until the service. The Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion will conduct a final salute at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
